Anti-aging duo from Perricone MD
I’ve never expected miracles from skin care products. Having used hundreds of so called “anti-aging” products in my adult lifetime I’ve come to the conclusion that some products can help halt the aging process but none can ever reverse it.
To those that don’t work in the industry and know exactly what skin care ingredients do, the world of age-management must be a head spin, there are so many conflicting opinions!
But if you look at evidence and study and what is proven the criteria for a good age-management skin care program is really very simple;
– Reduce oxidative stress of the skin with a good anti-oxidant
– Keep the skin moist to enable production of proteins collagen and elastin
– and avoid the sun exposure which accounts for 95% of skin ageing
Do these three things and you’ll be doing all you can to slow down the ageing process.
And this is why I love these two products and want to share them with you.
PERRICONE MD Acyl-Glutathione Eye Lid Serum
Having droopy eyelids I’ve always been on the lookout for a product that would lift the skin in a way that way that only surgery can, and I’m sad to report it doesn’t exist. Unless of course you are prepared to use a lid glue and poke at your eyelids daily to get a temporary lift, I’m not. But being a hopeful sort I decided to give this product a try, after all the company made some pretty impressive claims;
– 80% saw improvement in the appearance of dark circles.
– 76% saw improvement in the appearance of creases above their eyes.
– 73% saw improvement in the tightness & firmness of the eye lid skin.
– 73% saw improvement in the redness of their eyelids.
– 76% said their upper eye lids looked smoother.
– 78% agreed this product helped their make-up go on more smoothly.
– 76% agreed this product worked well as a primer to enhance their make-up application and wear.
How does it work?
Acyl-Glutathione Eye Lid Serum topically replenishes skin’s Glutathione levels around the eye. For the uninitiated Glutathione is a simple molecule that is produced naturally in your body and is one of the most potent anti-oxidants available in health and skin care. So potent it is described as “the mother of all antioxidants, the master detoxifier and maestro of the immune system”. The bad news is that poor diet, pollution, toxins, medications, stress, trauma, infections and radiation all deplete your glutathione leaving you and your skin vulnerable to oxidative stress which happens to be one of the most influential factors to skin ageing. Coupled with the fact the eyes and the skin around them are extremely delicate and fragile and you can understand why this is one of the first areas of the face to age.
Enough science, I thought it was worth a try and this is what I found;
It sinks in immediately and gives an instant tightening of the lids. So much so that I can actually see my eye shadow when I apply it. Now I’m not talking cm’s here but micro mm’s however, the crepiness of the lid looks so much smoother and my lids are no longer resting on my eyelashes.
Makeup glides over the top like a dream and I don’t need to add an eye primer.
I decided to try it under the eye and find it firms and smooths this area too.
After a month I find the results more permanent, the skin is definitely smoother, tighter and the dark circles under my eyes are fading, not gone but much lighter. It hasn’t really done much for the puffiness under my eyes but I suspect that is a result of sleep deprivation and too little water.
With such great results I decided to try another Dr Perricone product:
PERRICONE MD High Potency Amine Face Lift
I know, expecting a face lift in a bottle is beyond ridiculous and after a month I can truly attest it does not lift your face.
This is a serum and is applied beneath your normal moisturiser or in my case under my sunscreen. It contains three potent actives; Vitamin C Ester, DMAE and Pycnogenol which are all tried and tested anti-oxidants, however the difference with this product is the very high percentage of these ingredients within the formulation.
After a month’s use I can attest the following benefits; my skin is more refined in texture (pores are much smaller) a very slight firming is evident particularly around the eyes and mouth and my skin also seems more radiant and glowy. A bonus is a soft fading of hyper-pigmentation on the cheeks which I suspect is a result of the Vitamin C Ester.
So far I’m very impressed with both products which have created a visible difference to the appearance of my skin. I’m happy too knowing that I’m doing all I could to halt the ageing process by using them daily in conjunction with a sunscreen.
They are very pricey, however I only use them in the morning and a very small amount so each bottle is likely to last approx. three to four months and saves me using three or four products to achieve the same results so I consider it worth it.
A bonus is the products are paraben and artificial fragrance free and are not tested on animals.
Let me know if you decide to try them or if you have any questions, I’m only too happy to share!
