I like to keep a few beauty bits on my bedside table to use when I first hop in bed and before I lose myself in a good book. I have these there partly because I enjoy the pampering ritual but also because I tend to neglect these items as part of a normal routine. Having them there reminds me to use them and it pays dividends in the results for my skin.
The items change from time to time as I try new products but the categories remain the same; foot buffer and foot cream, hand cream and a concentrate to use under it, a lip balm/everything salve, essential oils to help me sleep and my eye mask (I can’t sleep without this!).
My current bedside beauty treats are:
I used to keep a foot buffer in the shower but was told by a podiatrist that buffing the feet while wet isn’t nearly as effective as buffing then dry and it’s true! Every couple of days I give the feet a buff with this exfoliating file and it’s amazing how soft my feet feel afterwards. I love the shape of this one which is really easy to grip. I confess I use this more often in Summer than Winter as my feet are more on show then!
After buffing my feet I love to apply a rich foot cream and I give my feet a deep massage to relieve tension while I’m at it. According to reflexology doing this helps your body to unwind and this is ideal before you sleep. I can’t bear to wear foot socks so need to use a product that sinks in and doesn’t leave my feet greasy and sticky and this one completely absorbs leaving your feet feeling fresh and clean. I also love that it doesn’t smell of peppermint like most foot creams but has a soft, fresh scent that isn’t too stimulating.
A favourite of mine and once again I love that this penetrates and doesn’t make your hands feel greasy. It’s rich and unctuous and deeply hydrating and smells fresh and clean.
I apply this to my lips at night, it contains Beta Hydroxy Acids which help to renew lip cells and is deeply nourishing, this also goes on my knees, elbows and ankles when they become dry and parched.
I don’t have trouble sleeping generally but as I often work late I do sometimes have trouble unwinding so I use this for an aromatherapeutic de-stress. It is primarily lavender which is calming and eucalyptus which aids breathing particularly when you have sinus problems or a cold. It comes in a handy rollerball wand and a little on the temples and wrists is all you need. I find it very soothing and comforting and I always take this while travelling. I believe using this before bed every night where you feel safe and happy helps you to achieve an associated calmness where ever else you use it.
I received this in a beauty subscription box and with so many other products on the go put it aside. When my hands became very dry after winter I was looking for something to give them deeper nourishment so began using this beneath my hand cream at night. The results were quite remarkable! I’ve been using this for the past month and my hands look younger and smoother than I can ever remember. I will keep buying this purely for the great results and highly recommend trying a rosehip oil beneath your hand cream at night.
I received this as a gift from a friend visiting the UK and have used it every night since then. One side is a gorgeous silk and the other a super-soft velvet and it is filled with dried lavender. I love it because it is so soft on my eyes and the scent is so subtle but comforting and soothing. It completely blocks light and since using this I don’t seem to wake with puffy eyes.
So what are your bedside must haves?
