REVIEW: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
Some of us like our foundation matte, some like it dewy, some prefer lightweight while others opt for fuller coverage. When it comes to foundation (and you just have to read reviews to see this) we don’t all think alike.
So who then wouldn’t be intrigued by a foundation that appears to have everybody in rapture and seems to be loved by all?
Naturally I had to try it! For you of course!
It’s the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and in Australia it is available at David Jones for a cool $90 for 30ml which puts it in the very pricey category and is the reason why I’m a little slow on the bandwagon.
This stuff would want to be good and guess what? It is.
It is said to have a unique “micro-fill” technology which in normal speak means it is a silicone based foundation that will fill in your fine lines and pores, this is evident too when you spread it, it spreads like a dream.
It’s lightweight and I found applying with a brush, beauty blender and fingers all worked for me but my preference is with the fingers as I like a “no makeup” feel. Even though it’s lightweight it offers good coverage and I found it covered my “boo boo’s” very well. No need for concealer except beneath the eyes. It can be worn very light or layered up to full-coverage.
It feels nice on the skin, airy, clean and light and while it does contain traces of alcohol and fragrance they both seem extremely mild and don’t irritate my reactive skin so I don’t believe it would pose a problem for most.
The finish is what I really love about this product, I’d describe it as soft focus, while oil-free and matte, it has a subtle sheen that deflects light making the skin seem almost flawless. Despite the subtle glow it photographs well too, in fact this is a makeup artist’s favourite due to it’s success in photography. Why? Because it has no SPF which is notorious for creating “flash back” and making the skin look washed-out in photographs. Not a problem for me as I wear SPF anyway but something to consider if you are looking for a “do it all” type product.
It lasts well too and doesn’t cake or go patchy but just fades evenly throughout the day with or without powder. I prefer not to powder as I don’t want to conceal that lovely glow and this didn’t seem to reduce the wear.
Here is a close up; my skin is combination/oily with large pores and some sun-damage and I think this single layer looks pretty good!
My verdict: I love this foundation. It ticks all the boxes for me except price, therefore I reserve mine for evening use or special occasions, otherwise using my beloved BB cream for daytime with its trusty factor 30.
So if you are looking for that ultimate foundation to make you look airbrushed and gorgeous this would definitely be a good choice and with a little going such a long way (1 small pump was enough for my entire face) it probably isn’t as hefty price wise as it seems at first glance.
What’s your favourite foundation? Have you tried Armani’s Luminous Silk?
